Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at an international scientific meeting titled “Arbaeen and the Civilizational Future of the Islamic Ummah” — held by the International Vice Presidency of Seminaries — Hojatoleslam Gholamreza Behrouzi Lak elaborated on the role of Arbaeen in shaping Islamic civilization.
Defining civilization as “a human complex with key indicators such as a macro worldview, internal coherence, the ability to organize and attract people, inclusiveness, and adaptability,” he said these qualities are evident in Islamic civilization. He added that the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) in the first century AH was aimed at preserving the authenticity and revival of Islam. “According to the Prophet’s hadith, Imam Hussein (AS) is a beacon of guidance and a ship of salvation,” he noted.
Hojatoleslam Behrouzi Lak stated that Arbaeen is a continuation of the Ashura movement, beginning with the first Arbaeen marked by the presence of companions such as Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari and the return of the captives of Karbala. “This tradition, despite historical ups and downs, has reached its peak in recent decades, now drawing tens of millions of participants,” he said.
Addressing the connection between Arbaeen and the future of Islamic civilization, he explained that the subject can be studied from two perspectives: exploratory and prescriptive. “In the exploratory dimension, we identify drivers and macro trends that reveal the potential of Arbaeen to strengthen and flourish Islamic civilization in the future. These drivers are influential forces that shape the direction of history.”
He further emphasized the importance of recognizing global macro trends — systematic developments that affect all aspects of human life — noting that their continuous monitoring is essential for understanding how Arbaeen can contribute to the future of Islamic civilization.
